FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, February 28, 2025

ATLANTA | Today, Senate Bill 152 passed out of the Senate and will now head to the House for consideration. SB 152, which would expand eligibility for the Georgia Promise Scholarship to biological and adoptive children of foster care parents, is a priority of Lt. Governor Burt Jones for the 2025 Legislative Session.

“Today, the Senate reaffirmed our commitment to Georgia’s families, children and our most vulnerable population – our children in foster care,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “The families across Georgia who willingly become foster parents are examples of selfless love and service. Supporting our foster families and children, including expanding resources for their children’s education, is a commitment I will not waver on. I look forward to the House’s consideration of Senate Bill 152 and it becoming law.”

Senate Bill 152 was introduced by Senator Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming) and will expand eligibility for the Georgia Promise Scholarship to biological and adoptive children of foster care parents. The Scholarship enables eligible families to use $6,500 in state-funded scholarships toward a non-public education of their choice. The proposed legislation would not change the existing program criteria, funding, or requirements.
