Georgia Does DOGE: Lt. Governor Burt Jones Applauds Senate Bill 28 Senate Passage
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, February 24, 2025
ATLANTA | Today, the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025” passed out of the Senate and will now head to the House for consideration. Senate Bill 28, a priority of Lt. Governor Burt Jones, builds on the work done during the 2024 session to cut government regulation, boost small businesses, and expand economic opportunities throughout Georgia.
“The Senate is leading the way to combat burdensome and costly regulations on behalf of business owners and employees across the state,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “The ‘Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025’ is mirroring the great work President Trump is doing in Washington to create efficiency, reduce unnecessary spending and eliminate bureaucratic red tape across state agencies. I look forward to the House taking up Senate Bill 28 quickly and joining the Senate to make the size and scope of government more efficient, while promoting the growth of businesses across our state.”
The “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025” has several features. In order to ensure efficiency, all state agencies will be required to complete a top-to-bottom review of all agency rules and regulations every four years. The bill will require agencies to account for the economic impact of all proposed rules and provide economic reports to the General Assembly when major rules are proposed. Rules with a large economic impact would have to be ratified by the General Assembly before going into effect.
Under this initiative, state agencies will also be directed to reduce compliance and paperwork burdens on small businesses, when feasible. The bill will also give legislators the ability to request a “Small Business Impact Analysis” for pending legislation to better understand how a bill might impact Georgia’s most important job creators.
