FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, February 5, 2025

ATLANTA |Today, Lt. Governor Burt Jones joined President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. for the signing of the "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports” Executive Order. The executive order bans transgender athletes from participating in women's sports.

“It was an honor to stand with President Trump today as he signed the "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports” Executive Order,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “President Trump’s national priority mirrors what the Georgia Senate has led on since I took office in 2023 – protecting women’s sports and their rights to compete. Last year, the Senate passed a measure to make these protections for our sisters and daughters a reality, but the Georgia House failed to take action. I am proud that tomorrow, Senate Bill 1, the 'Fair and Safe Athletic Opportunities Act,' will be on the Senate floor for a vote. Ensuring that in the future, females participating in Georgia sports are protected at any level is a priority I will not waver on.”

Senate Bill 1, the 'Fair and Safe Athletic Opportunities Act,' is based on legislative findings relating to the need to protect girls’ and women’s athletics and the work of the Senate Special Committee on the Protection of Women’s Sports, which Lt. Governor Jones created and appointed. By enacting Senate Bill 1, Georgia will join 26 other states that protect women’s sports.

The "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports” Executive Order, which is effective immediately, creates mandates on sex and sports policy, including the prohibition of transgender girls and women in female sports categories.
