ATLANTA |Today, Lt. Governor Burt Jones announced legislative appointments to seven 2024 Senate Study Committees.

“I am pleased to announce my appointments for the 2024 Senate Study Committees created during the 2024 session,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “Each of these study committees will review current policies and practices within their specific topics. The appointees are experts on these issues and bring their unique experience and knowledge to each of the committees. I look forward to learning more from their findings and addressing their recommendations during the 2025 Legislative Session.”

Senate Study Committee on Access to Affordable Child Care. The following members will serve on the seven-member committee:

  • Senator Brian Strickland (R – McDonough) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Matt Brass (R – Newnan)
  • Senator Clint Dixon (R – Gwinnett)
  • Senator Bo Hatchett (R – Cornelia)
  • Senator Derek Mallow (D – Savannah)
  • Senator Elena Parent (D – Atlanta)
  • Senator Michael 'Doc' Rhett (D – Marietta)

Senate Study Committee on the Preservation of Georgia's Farmlands. The following members will serve on the seven-member committee:

  • Senator Billy Hickman (R – Statesboro) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas)
  • Senator Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta)
  • Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta)  
  • Senator Russ Goodman (R – Homerville)
  • Senator Freddie Powell Sims (D – Dawson)
  • Senator Sam Watson (R – Moultrie)

Senate Study Committee on Veterans' Mental Health and Housing. The following members will serve on the five-member committee:

  • Senator Chuck Payne (R – Dalton) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Ed Harbison (D – Columbus)
  • Senator Josh McLaurin (D – Sandy Springs)
  • Senator Shawn Still (R - Norcross)
  • Senator Rick Williams (R – Milledgeville)

Senate Supporting Safety and Welfare of All Individuals in Department of Corrections Facilities Study Committee. The following members will serve on the seven-member committee:

  • Senator Randy Robertson (R - Cataula) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator John Albers (R – Roswell)
  • Senator Tonya Anderson (D – Lithonia)
  • Senator Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta)
  • Senator Timothy Bearden (R – Carrollton)
  • Senator Steve Gooch, Senate Majority Leader, (R – Dahlonega)
  • Senator Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain)

Senate Advancing Forest Innovation in Georgia Study Committee. The following members will serve on the six-member committee:

  • Senator John F. Kennedy, President Pro Tempore, (R – Macon) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Frank Ginn (R – Danielsville)
  • Senator Steve Gooch, Senate Majority Leader, (R – Dahlonega)
  • Senator Russ Goodman (R – Homerville)
  • Senator Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta)
  • Senator Larry Walker (R – Perry)

Senate Study Committee on Artificial Intelligence. The following Senators will serve on the committee:

  • Senator John Albers (R – Roswell) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Max Burns (R – Sylvania)
  • Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta)
  • Senator Sheikh Rahman (D – Lawrenceville)
  • Senator Ed Setzler (R – Acworth)
  • Senator Shawn Still (R – Norcross)

Senate Safe Firearm Storage Study Committee. The following members will serve on the five-member committee:

  • Senator Emanuel Jones (D – Decatur) – Chairman of the Study Committee
  • Senator Frank Ginn (R – Danielsville)
  • Senator Marty Harbin (R – Tyrone)
  • Senator David Lucas (D – Macon)
  • Senator Ben Watson (R – Savannah)
