ATLANTA | Today, Lt. Governor Burt Jones issued a statement on the passage of the AFY24 Budget. The amended budget runs through June 30, 2024, and makes necessary changes for FY24.

“The AFY24 Budget makes necessary investments in our education system, economic development projects, transportation infrastructure, public safety, and agriculture industry,” said Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones. “These investments are a part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize education and keep our business environment thriving in Georgia.”

Some highlights of Senate Committee on Appropriations Budget Recommendations:

Adds $100 million for Regional Economic Business Assistance grants

Adds $250 million to support communities water and wastewater infrastructure development

Adds $100,000 for a feasibility study on development of a veterinary school at Fort Valley State

Supports funding for a dental school at Georgia Southern University

Supports funding for a medical school at the University of Georgia

Adds $250 million for local transportation infrastructure projects

Upgrades public safety training facilities in Forsyth and Monroe counties

Supports the creation of a new statewide public safety radio network
