Amended Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Adopted
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, March 6, 2023
ATLANTA |Today, the Georgia General Assembly adopted the Amended Fiscal Year 2023 (AFY23) Budget, House Bill 18. The AFY23 Budget is now headed to Governor Brian Kemp for his signature.
“I want to thank Senate Appropriations Chairman Blake Tillery, all of the subcommittee chairs and the entire Senate for their work on this budget,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “The AFY23 budget includes additional funding for priorities addressing mental health, education and economic development. Our focus will now shift to the Fiscal Year 2024 budget. We will continue to review agency and stakeholder requests while remaining steadfast in our commitment to appropriate taxpayers’ dollars in a fiscally, conservative manner.”
“In the AFY23 budget, we prioritized families and safety while remembering that this is not our money, but the taxpayers’,” said Senator Blake Tillery (R – Vidalia). “This budget returns over $2 billion in tax dollars and tax suspensions to them.”
Along with supporting the Senate’s changes and recommendations for the AFY23 budget, Lt. Governor Jones championed the following priorities and ensured proper funds were appropriated:
- Supporting Governor Brian Kemp to give $1 Billion back to Georgia’s taxpayers
- Funding mental health counselors and increasing funding within the foster care system
- Adding funding for a new veterans mental health facility in Hinesville
- Increasing funding within the K-12 system for various initiatives
