STATEMENT: Lt. Governor Cagle: Georgia will Prepare and Respond to Hurricane Irma

September 7, 2017

September 7, 2017 – Today, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle released the following statement on Georgia’s preparation efforts for Hurricane Irma:

“Current projections show Hurricane Irma making landfall on the Georgia coast Monday. In preparation for the storm’s arrival, we have made the decision to suspend our events to honor our first responders and law enforcement community on the anniversary of September 11th.  Many of these brave men and women will be assisting with the preparation and response to the areas impacted by the storm. I encourage everyone to heed Governor Deal’s state of emergency warnings and mandatory evacuation – as we prepare for the worst and hope for the best.   Those in the 30 counties under a state of emergency should follow GEMA’s alerts and take the necessary precautions to remain safe. We are monitoring this situation very closely and will be assisting the Governor and our state agencies to make sure we have all available resources in place to prepare and respond.”
