Cagle: Transforming Transportation Investment Act Provides More Value for Taxpayer Dollar

March 5, 2009

Lt Governor Casey Cagle released the following statement upon the Senate’s passage of S.B. 200, The Transforming Transportation Investment Act.

“There is no question that the current system of transportation delivery in our state is broken.  To continue down the path of status quo will put us further behind during a time when it is more important than ever to move ahead.  While some may resist change, Georgians continue to voice the desire for true transportation reform in our state.

“At the end of the day, this bill gives taxpayers more value for their dollar and will finally move forward transportation projects throughout our state that have sat on DOT’s shelf for years.  While we have yet to see a strategic statewide transportation plan out of the DOT, this bill will mandate such a plan that will be updated on a regular basis.  Local communities will see increased funding of direct grants from at least 25% percent of motor fuel funds.

“It has been a pleasure to work closely with Governor Perdue and Speaker Richardson on this bill as we share the desire for transportation transformation in Georgia.  President pro-tem Tommie Williams and Senator Jeff Mullis have been strong advocates and I commend their leadership and am proud of the Senate’s continued stance on transportation reform.”
