Lt. Governor Casey Cagle: Georgia Shines as Valdosta is Named TitleTown U.S.A.

July 28, 2008

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle traveled to Valdosta today to be on hand as ESPN presented the city with the coveted award of TitleTown U.S.A. Over 3000 cities were nominated and Valdosta beat out all other top sports cities including Boston, New York and Green Bay.  Cagle participated in the SportsCenter broadcast along with Jessie Tuggle, a ValdostaStateUniversity alumnus and former Atlanta Falcons linebacker, Valdosta City Mayor John Fretti and ESPN reporter Wendi Nix.   Cagle released the following statement congratulating the city of Valdosta:

“Celebrating with Valdosta today was an absolute honor and privilege. Valdosta is a city full of energy and enthusiasm and that is why I am not surprised that they were able to beat the stiff competition they were up against. This is a great story of a community – and an entire state – coming together to support one of our own.

“There is no doubt that Georgia will shine on the national stage as Valdosta enjoys the distinction of TitleTown U.S.A.  After a nationwide competition where over 3000 cities were nominated, we have much to be proud of here in Georgia.

“I have spent the past several days urging Georgians across the state to vote for Valdosta and now we see what good can come of the support of our entire state.   Today we celebrate the more than 450 titles ‘Winnersville’ have brought home as they were richly rewarded,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.
