Lt. Governor Casey Cagle Applauds Wildfire Relief Fund

January 7, 2008

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle applauded the establishment of the new Wildfire Relief Fund, which is aimed at providing assistance for forest restoration for the family farms that were affected by the wildfires last year.

“The 2007 wildfires affected twenty-one counties in South Georgia and many family forest farms.  Our farms are a key economic engine for our state and we should do all we can to restore them to the level of production prior to the wildfires.  I am proud of those who are working diligently to raise needed funds to restore and rebuild the areas affected,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.

Partners of the Wildfire Relief Fund include the Georgia Forestry Association, Weyerhaeuser, BASF, National Wild Turkey Federation, Georgia Forestry Commission, Seven Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council, Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Conservation Service and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Georgia Forestry Commission will notify family forest owners who were affected by last spring’s wildfire after funds have been received for the opportunity to apply for incentive payments to restore their land.
