Career Focus: Military and Aerospace Science
I owe much of my personal success to the opportunities I found in my community. Not only has my school supported my goals, but I have also been fortunate to have so many great friends and a loving family. Outside of academics, I attended several camps and seminars this summer, including: AFJROTC Annual Summer Leadership School, the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar, the University of North Georgia National Cyber Warrior Academy, and the United States Marine Corps Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy. All of these experiences, along with my volunteer work with the Marietta Police Department and internship with Marietta City Schools Central Office, have made who I am today.
What Marietta High School Means to Me:
While attending Marietta High School, I had one-of-a-kind opportunities to join leadership camps, and technical seminars – all across the United States – where I gained work experience which has given me confidence that I can achieve any goal I set my mind to achieve.
Throughout all of these amazing experiences, I have learned so many skills that will help me for years to come. I’ve learned to thrive in a any environment while improving my ability to adapt to varied leadership situations. Furthermore, I’ve gained valuable work and post-high school experiences. Most importantly, I’ve learned just how much Marietta City Schools and the surrounding community supports their students, and I cannot give enough thanks to my teachers and mentors.
How Marietta High School Shaped His Future:
Through my Military and Aerospace Science Pathway, I have been introduced to several opportunities that have opened many doors for me. During these experiences, I’ve been fortunate to extraordinary mentors who guide me through my high school career. Through my high school career, I’ve explored a variety of learning opportunities, which enabled me to plan for after high school.
Dawson’s Future Goals:
My dream is to serve my country. Ultimately, I hope to attend one of our nation's service academies. These schools offer a highly regarded education, but more importantly, they offer a chance to commission into the military and an opportunity to serve my country.
So far, I have received six congressional nominations to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, one to the United States Air Force Academy, and another to the United States Naval Academy. If offered an appointment, I hope to earn a commission to serve my country, and then receive a billet for Aviation, Infantry, or Military Intelligence.
