NEWS RELEASE - Lt. Governor Congratulates David Cook on Swearing-In as Secretary of Senate

July 2, 2013

Atlanta – This afternoon, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle presided over the swearing-in of David Cook as the new Secretary of the Senate. Cook, formerly Governor Deal’s Commissioner of the Department of Community Health, will immediately assume the duties as Secretary of the Senate following last month’s retirement of former Secretary Bob Ewing.

“David Cook has been a long-time public servant and will be a great Secretary of the Senate,” Cagle said. “David’s career of public service began almost three decades ago as a reading clerk in the Senate and has continued with service in many different areas of state government. The Secretary of the Senate is instrumental in making the legislative process work and I’m confident that we couldn’t have found a better individual to fill this position than my good friend David Cook.”

The process of identifying and selecting the next Secretary of the Senate was an exhaustive one that included input from Lt. Governor Cagle and interviews with leadership of both political parties.

“After interviews with Senators of both parties and after considering several highly-qualified applicants, it became clear that David Cook was the right choice for the job,” Cagle said. “I look forward to working alongside Secretary Cook in upcoming legislative sessions to deliver real results for the people of Georgia.”
