Cagle Encourages Elementary School Students to Participate in Mei Lan's First Birthday

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle will represent the state of Georgia during Zoo Atlanta’s birthday celebration for giant panda cub, Mei Lan on Thursday, September 6^th.   Cagle is encouraging elementary school students to participate in the celebration by sending birthday cards for Mei Lan to the Lt. Governor’s office, which Cagle will deliver on her first birthday.

“Georgia should be proud that we have one of only four zoos’ in the United States that is home to giant pandas.   These pandas are China’s national treasure and I look forward to celebrating our cub’s first birthday as well as welcoming Chinese Consulate General Qiao Hong to our great state,” Cagle said.

Birthday cards for the panda cub must be received by Wednesday, September 5^th.  This milestone is a great opportunity for students to learn more about giant pandas, and teachers who want further information on the panda may contact Cagle’s office to receive a poster with educational information about giant pandas and specifically, Mei Lan.
