Lt. Governor Cagle Appoints Monroe's Roy Roberts Jr. to Regional Planning Council

The office of Lt. Governor Casey Cagle announced Roy N. Roberts Jr. has been appointed to serve on the Council of Regional Commissions serving the Monroe area.  The Council will serve as the primary strategic entity for land use, environmental, transportation, and historic preservation planning in their designated region.

“Roy brings an extensive background of regional development leadership with a keen vision for northeast Georgia’s future growth,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. “He will be a tremendous asset to the Council and his community and I am truly honored to have him represent my office in this capacity.”

Roberts is a Certified Financial Planner and Senior Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Athens, GA.  He currently serves as chairman of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Board of Directors for the Walton County Development Authority and the Northeast Georgia Boy Scouts of America.

Roberts earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. He resides on his family’s cattle farm in Monroe with his wife Stephanie and their two children. 

Roberts will begin his two-year Council term July 1.  The Council was enacted by the General Assembly passing House Bill 1216 in 2008.  The Council will be the official regional planning and development organization for the local governments and citizens in its designated region.  The Council will create policy direction for the area’s short and long-term comprehensive planning and serve as liaison between its regional communities and the state government.
