Lt. Governor Cagle Appoints Augusta's Julian Roberts III to Regional Planning Council

The office of Lt. Governor Casey Cagle announced Julian H. Roberts III has been appointed to serve on the Council of Regional Commissions serving the Augusta area effective July 1.  The Council will serve as the primary strategic entity for land use, environmental, transportation, and historic preservation planning in their designated region.

"Julian is an extremely bright, dedicated and successful businessman and community leader who will bring an invaluable perspective to the Council, said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. "He has the necessary experience and knowledge to help his region continue to grow and prosper for years to come.  His service will be a tremendous asset to the Augusta area and it’s an honor for him to represent my office in this important role.”

Roberts is Managing Partner at Augusta Information Technologies, LLC., a computer service business he founded in 1999.  Roberts expanded his company over the years to manage data services for multiple businesses in the Augusta and surrounding Central Savannah River area.  Roberts was president of his family’s real estate investment firm Roberts-Augusta, Inc. and former lead engineer at Georgia Iron Works, Inc. prior to launching his business.

Roberts was appointed to the board of the Augusta-Richmond County Downtown Development Authority and served as its Chairman in 2007.  He also sits on the board of directors of the Augusta-Richmond County Museum of History and is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Augusta.  

A graduate from Vanderbilt University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Roberts is an Augusta native where he now lives with his wife Lisa and their two daughters.  They currently attend Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church.

Roberts will begin his two-year Council term July 1.  The Council was enacted by the General Assembly passing House Bill 1216 in 2008.  The Council will be the official regional planning and development organization for the local governments and citizens in its designated region.  The Council will create policy direction for the area’s short and long-term comprehensive planning and serve as liaison between its regional communities and the state government.
