We Make It Easy for Volunteers
Lt. Governor Cagle is committed to supporting Georgia’s safety-net clinics, which provide a strong, free-market healthcare alternative for Georgia's uninsured or underinsured. In 2009, changes were made in the Georgia law and in the rules and regulations regarding the Georgia Volunteer Health Care Program. Senate Bill 133 was signed into law in an effort to assist volunteers at these clinics. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Senator Lee Hawkins from Gainesville, this new law expands the state’s immunity to cover licensed practical nurses, registered professional nurses, nurse midwives, and advanced practical nurses employed by your clinic.
In addition to the law change, the Medical and Dental have made rule changes that will permit up to ten hours of Continuing Education to be earned in exchange for volunteer time at a free clinic. Doctors and dentists may work four hours of volunteer service in exchange for one hour of CE credit, up to ten CE hours biennially. (Rule 360-15-.01 for physicians & Rule 150-3-.09 for dentists)
